How it works

✓ Management of acute or post op pain, long standing/chronic pain, from all forms of arthritic conditions.

✓ Management of respiratory distress and shortness of breath.

✓ Assessment of mobility problems, and re-education and assistance for the patient to regain their full and independent mobility.

✓ Environmental assessment in patient’s home and provision of appropriate equipment to aid and ease various activities required for rehabilitation.

✓ Falls assessments where all older patients seen by our service are assessed for risk of falling and we then give appropriate treatment and advice to prevent further falls.

✓ Video consultation and Telehealth sessions for remotely located patients with the same level of professional service as physical therapy .

Initial Assessment

We encourage all clients to reach out for a pre-consultation session in order to carry out an initial assessment regarding their needs. The initial assessment will include the therapist discussing her/his findings and possible treatment pathway with the client. The result of the assessment is the development of a tailor made plan for our clients aimed at providing the best care and treatment.

First Visit

First Visits only apply to non-Telehealth clients.

On the first visit, a second assessment that usually lasts 60-90 minutes will be carried out. We would have sent you a registration and initial assessment questionnaire which you will have filled and returned to us prior to the first visit.

Treatment

Treatments are usually commenced following the initial assessment and visit (where applicable). Treatment may include advice, exercise programme, pain management and mobility practice. We will agree on any care or treatment in partnership with you.

FAQs For General Physiotherapy Services

What should I wear for my first appointment?

Wear something comfortable. Bring a pair of shorts if it is a lower back, hip, knee, ankle, or a foot problem. Bring a tank top / vest if it is a neck, upper back, shoulder, elbow, or hand problem.

Why should I consult a physiotherapist?

Physiotherapy can be helpful for people of all ages with a wide range of health conditions, including problems affecting the:

  • Bones, joints, and soft tissue – such as back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain and sports injuries
  • Brain or Nervous System – such as movement problems resulting from a stroke, multiple sclerosis (MS) or Parkinson’s disease
  • Heart and circulation – such as rehabilitation after a heart attack.
  • Lungs and breathing – such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and cystic fibrosis.

Physiotherapy can improve your physical activity while helping you to prevent further injuries.

Do you offer home visits?

Yes.

That is our forte. That is one of the ways we provide our services. We however also offer a virtual consultation i.e., via video.

Do you treat patients covered by Medical Insurance?

Not at the moment!

But we are working on being able to treat patients covered by medical insurance.

When should I consult a Physiotherapist?

If you suffer from pain and mobility issues it is quite common for us to get by, using over the counter pain killers and ointments. Often, we do not seek the support of a Physio until we have been referred via a GP or until the pain is so bad.

Physiotherapists are trained professionals that help injured patients get back to the highest range of movements. If left untreated injuries often do not heal as well as if you were on a treatment plan. Injuries, if left for 12 weeks can become chronic and chronic injuries are a lot harder to treat. Injuries also heal a lot quicker if you work with a physiotherapist, with the added benefit of often having less pain and more range of movement than before you had your injury.

If you feel it is only a minor injury and you are still in pain 48 hours after the injury, make an appointment with a physiotherapist. If you feel the injury is more serious make an appointment immediately. If for an extended period, you have been living with chronic pain and or limited mobility and range of movement make an appointment with a physiotherapist.

What does treatment involve?

Our Physiotherapists use different treatment methods to deal with a wide range of injuries. Depending on the nature and severity of your injury, you may require:

  • Manipulation or mobilisation of joints
  • Electrotherapy (Laser, Ultrasound, Interferential, Short Wave Diathermy).
  • We may arrange Acupuncture if it is appropriate for the condition, you present, and it is your choice.
  • Exercise therapy
  • Stretching and strengthening
  • Core stability training
  • Soft tissue massage
  • Heat or cold therapy
  • Patient education and home exercises
  • Biomechanical analysis
Do I need to be referred by my doctor?

If you are going to be paying for treatment yourself, then there is no need to go to your GP first.

If you will be using private medical insurance, please check your policy as some companies require a GP referral before they will cover your treatment.

How can these programmes help my company as a whole?

By providing your employees with healthy options and initiatives, you help prevent sickness, fatigue and mental burnout while expressing your care for everyone. These incentives can also act as team-building practices, leading to a more positive company culture.

How do I book a consultation with Optimum Wellness Concept?

A consultation can be booked through clicking “Book an Appointment” button anywhere on our website, sending us an email to: support@optwellcon.com or calling us on +44 7719163847.

What will my appointment involve?

Your visiting or virtual physiotherapist will ask you a variety of questions at the start so we can agree on the best course of treatment for you.

After this, a full assessment of movement, muscle power, walking pattern analysis and various other measures may be taken.

An updated home exercise programme will be provided at the end of each session and this you may access via our app, received via email or as a printout.

How many appointments will I need?

There is no set number. This will be guided by your physiotherapist after a detailed initial assessment.

Our clients are however encouraged to procure a block booking of x5 follow up appointments along with the initial assessment.

What typical problems do Post OP clients have?

Besides the effect on your mobility and functions, there are many aspects to having surgery, and not all of these are discussed with you pre-operatively. As well as the
obvious physical effects, you may be aware of changes in mood during this challenging time. We are here to answer any worries or concerns you may have and help motivate you along the way.

Can I book through my insurance company?

Post Op Domiciliary Physio is recognised by most of the major insurance companies. To proceed with treatment, we would require your policy number and authorisation code.

What are the benefits to having my physiotherapy at home?

There are many benefits of having physio after surgery at home rather than in clinic:

  • We come to you for physio in the comfort of your own home at a time that suits you.
  • There are no travel or parking costs.
  • We can assess your function in an environment that is familiar to you.
  • We can work on the functional goals that matter to you.
How can physio at home help after a total hip replacement?

Our service can be of help in the following ways;

  1. Increasing the range of movement of the hip
  2. Improving the strength of the muscles around the hip
  3. Reducing the period, for which you need or use a walking aid
  4. Improving balance
  5. Improving confidence
  6. Assistance to return to normal activities.
What types of surgeries are common for our physios to see?

Some examples suffice:
• Total knee replacement (TKR)
• Total hip replacement (THR)
• Arthroscopy
• Meniscectomy
• Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACL)
• Shoulder replacement
• Revision of joint replacement
• Spinal fusion
• Debridement

How long will it be before I feel normal after a hip or knee replacement?

The timing is different for everybody, and it has the element of age and other medical background linked to it. However ideally, you may be able to progress your mobility 6 weeks after your surgery.  It may take up to 3 months for pain and swelling to settle down and it can take up to a year for any leg swelling to disappear.

Your new joint will continue to recover up to 2 years after your operation. This also depends on your activity levels prior to surgery. There is no exact recovery time, and your physiotherapist will assess your individual goals after your initial appointment.

When can I drive again after a hip or knee replacement?

You may resume driving when you can flex your hip or knee enough, with good enough muscle strength, to get in and out of a car and control the car properly, including an emergency stop. However, you must seek approval from your consultant or GP.

What can I do to look after my new joint after a replacement surgery?
  • Rest and elevate the leg to reduce any swelling and inflammation.
  • Use your walking aids but aim to gradually decrease the amount you rely on them as your leg feels stronger. But always in conjunction with the advice of your Physiotherapist.
  • Keep up your exercises daily to help prevent stiffness and do not force your knee.
  • Wear supportive shoes / slippers.
